SAR Business Meeting at the AAA Conference 2024

Join us for the SAR Business Meeting at the American Anthropological Association (AAA) conference, taking place in Tampa, Florida, from November 20 to November 23, 2024. During the meeting, we will announce the winners of the Geertz Prize and the Student Paper Prize, introduce our new Board members, and share exciting details about our upcoming Biennial Conference, which will be held June 21-23, 2025, at UCSB.

Call for Travel Grants for the 2024 AAA Annual Meeting

The Society for the Anthropology of Religion (SAR) is offering up to four travel grants of $500 each to scholars of color and/or underemployed scholars attending the 2024 AAA Annual Meeting in Tampa, Florida. Priority will be given to those participating in SAR-sponsored panels. Scholars from underrepresented groups and those without secure employment are encouraged to apply.

To apply, please send the following to SAR President Mayfair Yang (yangm@ucsb.edu) by November 6, 2024:

  1. Accepted abstract for an SAR-sponsored panel at the AAA meeting.
  2. Notice of paper acceptance from the AAA.
  3. Personal statement (max. 250 words) detailing your current status, doctoral degree date (or expected) and institution, and why you qualify for the award.

1) The Society for the Anthropology of Religion (SAR) column in Anthropology News invites submissions that convey short stories about religion inspired by fieldwork, popular media, or current events. Accepted submissions will be published in 2024 and 2025.

2) The Department of Religious Studies at UNC Chapel Hill is seeking to fill a tenure-track assistant professor position specializing in Hinduism and South Asian Religions. We encourage applications from anthropologists and would appreciate your help in sharing this opportunity widely.
