SAR hosts two annual competitions to recognize excellence in anthropological research and writing. The Clifford Geertz Prize in the Anthropology of Religion is awarded each year to an outstanding recent book in the field. The Talal Asad Graduate Student Paper Prize is aimed towards encouraging emerging scholars to write compelling ethnographies on religion.
